Over 200 cops deployed in north Delhi after unrest

New Delhi: More than 200 policemen including senior Delhi police officials were present at Jatan Gali Telyan in north Delhi to avert clashes in the area.
The police deployment on Wednesday followed an attack by anti-social elements of the area on a house where a wedding function was going on Tuesday night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Jatin Narwal stated that a minor incident of stone pelting took place around 1 am. Police immediately controlled the situation, dispersed the gathered people and dominated the whole area. In the stone pelting which started over playing of DJ songs, one person got a minor injury.
"FIR under sections of rioting and simple hurt has been registered and is under investigation. The local peace committee meeting has been conducted," said the DCP.
An eyewitness, 83-year old Sansar Chand, stated that the ladies function was going on on the third floor when some five to six unidentified youths came to the house and tried to go to the third floor. "I asked them where they were going. I will call Delhi Police," said the elderly person.
He further added that after coming outside the house, the youth started to pelt stones and broke many vehicles. Nearby the house, there is a tea shop run by one Harish Chand who stated that his motorcycle was broken during the pelting.
"The anti-social elements tried to burn a Scooty but it was doused and the situation remained tense for at least one hour," said Harish Chand.
In the morning around 3 meetings were conducted by police and locals to maintain peace in the area.
