Over 150 stolen batteries recovered from two burglars

NEW DELHI: Parking in open is proving to be a boon for the burglars who target cars parked in uncovered parking in the city and get away stealing the batteries. The Delhi police has busted a gang and has recovered 152 stolen batteries from their possession.

The gang disclosed about the commission of more than 250 incidents of battery thefts. 39 recent cases of car battery theft of Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Hari Nagar, Khyala and Tilak Nagar have been solved. Two members of the gang Kishan Yadav and Asif Khan have been arrested.

"In the wake of a steep rise in the incidents of thefts of batteries of cars in the area of West District, a dedicated team of Anti Auto Theft Squad of West District was tasked to develop information about such criminals for nabbing them. Team of AATS visited the places of occurrence and met the victims. Based on the information collected from the place of occurrence and victims, sources were deployed and strategic traps were laid to nab the criminals," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said.

On November 21, a specific input was received that the above criminals will come at DDA Sports Complex, near PNB, Subhash Nagar, Delhi on a stolen scooter for committing a crime. They were nabbed along with eight batteries.

On further interrogation, they disclosed that the batteries are stolen and they were going to dispose of them in junk market Mayapuri.

In pursuance to the information, they were interrogated hardly and later got recovered other 144 batteries of different vehicles from their hideouts.
