Out to clear encroachment, MCG team attacked by man

Gurugram: Out to clear the encroachment in New Colony, the MCG team was fired upon by a person who was later arrested by the Gurugram police. There was no injury or casualty in the entire incident.

According to law enforcement officials, the move was carried out by a middle-aged person in order to intimidate the officials who had come to carry out the process of razing the illegal shops. Such was an audacity of the person that he carried out this brazen act in front of the police.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the team of officials in the presence of police came to New colony area to raze the illegal shops. Balraj who has multiple shops in the area first had an altercation with the officials and then in order to scare them fired gunshots to intimidate the workers.

"I have visited the site where somebody fired to intimidate the MCG team led by Vikas Malik. The whole team is motivated and such incidents will not deter us from taking action," said Yashapal Yadav the MCG commissioner.

While Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) claims that its officials are working towards providing better walking spaces for the citizens, most of the residents do not seem to be impressed by the claims.

Complaints of encroachments in the city continue to come in large numbers at the MCG office. Even as there has been a large scale campaign by the MCG in removing the encroachments on the city pavements, residents have often highlighted that encroachment at pavement is a regular sight in the city.
