Old Seelampur murder victim had criminal record

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday said that the murder of a scrap dealer in Old Seelampur area could be the fallout of a personal enmity.
Police said that the deceased Zaffar Qureshi himself had criminal background, with over 20 cases against him.
Sources told Millennium Post that till now they have not found any gang war angle in the murder.
"We are probing the case from all probable angles. More than four to five teams led by a senior police official are working," said a senior police official.
As part of the investigation, police are also monitoring the financial dealings of the accused. The police team also scanning the past records of Qureshi to see whether he had any altercations with someone.
When asked whether the twin murders in north east Delhi have any connection with Qureshi's murder, the senior official denied it, asserting that the murders has no link with each other. "We have been investigating and not found any such links between the accused or the victims," said the officer.
The incident was reported from Old Seelampur on Tuesday afternoon, when bike-borne assailants pumped several rounds of bullets into Qureshi.
Sources said that around seven to eight rounds were fired at him.
The way the murder took place makes police suspect the role of contract killers. "Investigation is in its initial stage and we are looking at every possibility," said another policeman.
Qureshi's involvement with other gangs is also being looked into. Local sources told police that after hearing the sound of gunshots, which went on for a couple of minutes, they initially thought somebody was bursting crackers.
Police have questioned several people, including the family members of the accused, to find clues.
Moreover, files of the 26 criminal cases the deceased was involved in are being scanned.
