Off to nab criminal, cops held captive, thrashed by villagers

Gurugram: It could have been a major achievement for Sohna police but not only the law enforcement officials were unsuccessful but also survived a deadly assault on its personnel. Off to catch a dreaded criminal named 'Bacchii' in Rahadi village in Taoru near Gurugram, the officials received a rude shock. The villagers not only saved Bacchii from getting arrested but also physically assaulted the officials.
The police personnel were allegedly held captive and beaten mercilessly by the residents who felt that Bacchii has been falsely charged. The officials could only be saved after some personnel from Gurugram police were called to save their counterparts. Meanwhile, the dreaded criminals who have been charged in various crimes including ATM thefts in Gurugram were able to flee from the spot. Taking action against those who prevented the police from discharging their duty, the police have filed cases against various people including the village head (Sarpanch). It has been a major challenge for the district police to curb burglaries and loots as most of the criminals belong to parts of Sohna, Alwar, Mewat and Uttar Pradesh.
This is one of the rare cases where the villagers in support of their own men attacked the police officials. However, this is not for the first time when rural citizens in Gurugram stood up for their residents. Villagers of Bhondsi in Sohna had protested against the arrest of people accused of attacking a school bus carrying children on January 24. The village heads protested that many of the people arrested by the police were innocent and falsely charged.
It was a major victory of sorts for the residents of Ghmroj, Sohna, who stood up for the 42-year-old Ashok even at a time when many had pronounced him guilty of murdering 7-year-old Pradyuman Thakur. The villagers even went on to financing Ashok's court trial to help his family.
