Nun held on charges of child trafficking in Ggn

Gurugram: The Gurugram police have arrested Sister Lilly Baretto, a 65-year-old nun, who was in charge of running child care centre Ujjwal Niketan in the city on the charges of child trafficking and forgery.
The accused was arrested from south-east Delhi on Sunday.
Her accomplices Sister Lilly Coelho and Ajay Lama have also been arrested from village Hayatpur.
According to the police, the arrests came after series of raids by the law enforcement agency on the child care centre after there were series of complaints regarding the charitable organisation flouting the rules.
They have been arrested under sections 370 (child trafficking), 420 (fraud), 467 (forgery of valuable security) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Shocking detail emerged then from the records that were checked by the public officials in its raids in July this year at the centres that are located at Sector-4 and Hayatpur.
It was found that not only were the orphan children at the centre exploited but there was also no proper record maintained of the number of children registered therer. Large scale discrepancies were found in stating vital information of the children like their age- groups and their place of birth. In a more disturbing revelation, children have also been found missing from the centre.
According to management most of the missing children have been sent to Goa. However, when asked the objective for which they were sent, the management failed to give valid reasons.
Taking cognisance of the major problems at the centre, a case was registered at Sector-10A and Sector-9 police stations. Ironically, the arrested nun was felicitated by the district administration for her philanthropic work earlier.
