NSUI selects 10 candidates for four DUSU posts

NEW DELHI: National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Monday nominated 10 candidates for the four crucial posts in the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, which are scheduled to be held on September 12.

According to an official, 13 candidates from the Congress affiliated students' outfit had filed their nominations, but only 10 could get through the process. It is to be noted that of the 10 candidates, five are female.
Meanwhile, a press statement released by NSUI said that in the interest of students, it had submitted a memorandum to University officials for election reforms.
They were assured that the demands will be taken care of after consulting competent authorities. However, till date, there has no response from the administration, said NSUI.
"This shows their lacklustre attitude towards the student union elections and reforms proposed by NSUI. We demand that the reforms are decided upon by the University administration before the voting takes place for this DUSU election of 2017," the statement said.
"Elections are being conducted in the manner of private elections held in a private institution. The election officers are University professors and student election of such scale does not follow either the guidelines of state or national election commission. University officials also do not involve either the state or national election commission officials," it further read.
