Northern Railway celebrates 63rd Railway Week

New Delhi: Marking the celebrations of 63rd Railway Week, a special run of heritage train pulled by steam engine 'AZAD' from New Delhi railway station to Delhi junction station was organized by Delhi Division of Northern Railway on this occasion at New Delhi on Thursday.
Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board flagged off the special train. Speaking on the occasion Lohani said, "Indian Railways has a fairly good repository of Steam Engines, we are trying to resuscitate some of them. Special Joy ride trains will be run on dedicated routes."
"The tickets of these runs will be priced such that everyone can take a ride on them. At present, the modalities of a bi-weekly Steam engine hauled train run is being worked out to run between Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar over Northern Railway," Lohani added.
Nitin Chowdhary, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) stated that the iconic gentle giant steam engine, 'AZAD' chugged off whistling in its characteristic style, billowing a plume of white steam, pulling with it three heritage coaches.
Specially-abled children from Navchetna school, run by Northern Railway Women's Welfare Organization, Delhi Division took a joyride on the train.
Children were overjoyed to be on the train and clapped and cheered as the train pulled out of the station.
More than 200 railway employees were felicitated for their exceptional service to the Railways.
