Noise Pollution: Loudspeakers, generators annoy residents

New Delhi: Noise from loudspeakers, DJs, generators, marble cutting machines, are annoying the residents of Delhi, as a result, they made more than 4,000 calls to Delhi Police informing them about the problems. The city police, under various provisions, had taken action against the complaints.

Police sources told Millennium Post that up to September 18, more than 2,000 calls were received to city police against the use of loudspeakers or DJs between 10 pm to 6 am.

The city police took action against more than 400 calls which came on their earlier emergency number.

"Also, there might be a possibility of having multiple calls made by different people for one incident which increase the number of calls," a police source said.

Sources further added that from 6 am to 10 pm, 14 Delhi Police districts received more than 1,400 calls related to loudspeakers or DJs.

The city police also received more than 50 calls related to the sound pollution created by generators, construction equipment for marble cutting machine.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that they take prompt action on the complaints related to noise pollution. On August 30, a meeting was held among the top brass of Delhi Police in which Joint CPs (ranges) and district DCsP were told to make an agenda point on efforts to curb noise pollution for their weekly meetings and to review it regularly. Apart from the PA 100 calls, city police have taken action against 470 DJ sets.

Whereas over 240 actions were taken on the use of loudspeakers. They were booked under various provisions like the DP act, Environment act, 188 IPC, 133 CrPc, MV act.
