Noida hailstorm: 1 killed, over hundred houses damaged

Greater Noida/ Ghaziabad: The beautiful scenery of Noida after Thursday evening's hailstorm have surely amazed people but somewhere caused a havoc to people living in the flood plains in two villages of Greater Noida. Reports said that over 150 houses, that were built in Hindon flood plains in Aliwardipur and Chhapraula villages of Greater Noida, collapsed due to hail storm and heavy rain on Thursday night.

Police officials said that the sudden hail storm which was accompanied by high speed winds and rain swept through the two villages and completely damaged several housing clusters in the area.

"Over a hundred houses built in flood plains in Aliwardipur village under Ecotech-III area of Greater Noida collapsed due to heavy rain and hail storm around 8:30 pm on Thursday. Police teams along with fire officials rushed to the spot for rescue operation. We managed to rescue around 60 people living in those houses who escaped with minor injured," said Anita Chauhan, SHO of Ecotech-III police station.

In a similar incident, nearly 70 such built such in flood plains collapsed in Chhapraula village under Badalpur police station area of greater Noida. Police officials said that around 15-20 people have sustained injuries due to the collapse which was caused due to hailstorm and heavy rain. Meanwhile in Ghaziabad district, a man in his late 30s died after two cars fell into a drain in Masuri area of Ghaziabad on Thursday night.

"The incident was reported to police around 9 pm. A police team rushed to the spot and found that two Cars have allegedly fallen into a drain after the driver lost control due to a sudden hailstorm. The victim identified as Jagdish, a native of Badaun district, was allegedly killed while four other occupants were injured," said a senior police officer.
