Noida, Greater Noida residents carry out sapling plantation in various sectors
Sunday witnessed a major plantation drive which was carried out in various sectors and parks across the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida. Separate drives were taken up by the residents, volunteers, students and police officials in their respective sectors, offices areas and nearby parks.
In Noida, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police department took a drive to plant saplings on their premises.
Traffic Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Jha also joined the drive along with the volunteers and other cops.
"We have planted around 35 saplings in our premises in Noida Sector 14A on Sunday. Several volunteers helped us in successfully carrying out the drive. We will make sure that such a drive will be carried out by us later also, for which we have requested the volunteers for their support and valuable efforts in future also. Plantation will make police station green and will add to the aesthetics" said Layak Singh, Traffic Inspector, Noida.
Similar drives were carried out in Greater Noida also.
A tree plantation drive was carried out in Dabra village, the residents planted saplings across the sides of Shaheed Sarovar Lake. District Forest Officer, H V Girish also joined hands with them in the plantation drive. Around 200 saplings were planted in their drive.
"Keeping in mind the alarming pollution levels in the city, there is a need to plant as much tress as we can," said Vikrant Tongad, an environmental activist from Greater Noida.
"Planting trees is most essential to save our ecology. More plantations will increase the Green Cover, making it the first step to address climate change.
"The axing of trees due to construction activities have increased beyond the limit in past few years. We also request the local people to plant trees in their nearby areas and also make sure that they survive," he added.
Giving strength to the drive, the students of various schools planted sapling in various nooks on the twin city.
