Noida gets 1st pink toilet

Noida: The Noida Authority, on Thursday, inaugurated Noida's first pink toilet in sector 50 market and a biometric attendance system for sanitation workers. Noida authority's Chairman Alok Tandon and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ritu Maheshwari inaugurated the new facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Maheshwari said that the new facility will help women visiting the area or passing by and has been built keeping in mind their needs.

"We have considered the convenience of women and have constructed city's first pink toilet which will cater their needs. Around nine pink toilets are already under-construction and will be shortly ready," said Maheshwari.

The new facility will have five toilets, a sanitary pad vending machine, a separate room for breastfeeding for lactating mothers and a waiting bench to sit if the toilets are occupied. Officials said that these toilets will operate from 8 am to 8 pm daily. Apart from this, the authority also started a biometric attendance system for sanitation workers across Noida. Initially the new system will be for those sanitation workers who are working in sector 1 to sector 10 and will be implemented in others sectors soon.

According to officials, a biometric attendance system is already in place for other employees of the Authority. However, there was no system in place for the sanitation staff, who remain in the field to clean the city, said a senior officer of Noida authority.

"The biometric attendance system will increase efficiency in managing the mobile workforce while the contractor will be responsible for ensuring that the sanitation staff record their attendance. In order to boost them, the authority will announce sanitation ambassadors every month to motivate the workers towards better performance. A red jacket and Rs 2100 cash prize will be given to 10 sanitation workers and two supervisors," added Maheshwari.

The authority also organised a gathering of sanitation staff from all over the city at noida stadium in sector 21A of Noida in which the new directions were given to the staff while the Safety gear like gloves and mask were also distributed to them.
