'No major power cut crisis in Delhi'

NEW DELHI: The biggest achievement of Kejriwal government is smooth power supply with minimum load shedding and 50 slashed power bill to consumers sans any power tariff hike since last four years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the country's youngest political outfit, says it is proud of what it has achieved in just four years in the capital since sweeping to power winning 67 of the 70 assembly seats. It is pertinent to mention that Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) had kept power tariffs unchanged in the last four years since Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power. In its tariff order for 2018-19, the commission has reduced electricity prices for domestic power consumption of up to 200 units per month by Re one per unit to Rs three per unit.

"There is no major power cut crisis in Delhi during summer season especially in unauthorised colonies as well as J J slums areas", said an official of BSES, who did not want to be named.

A resident of resettlement colony of Jahangirpuri, Jagdish Singh said that we are not facing any major power cut during summer season. Simlarly echoed his view Sadique from Mangolpuri resettlement area, no power outaged in this area.

"There is a major relief to lower middle-income as well as resettlement residents, who are consuming power below 400 unit per month. In last two years, there has been no increase in power tariff in Delhi," said senior officer from CM's office.

"Delhi is the only city in the country that offers 24 hour power supply to all its residents. We have seen there are some pockets in the city that have a power as well as water supply issue. In the case of power, the areas where local faults have been observed will immediately be fitted with new transformers," added Chief Minister official.

Discoms had been told to avoid load-shedding in summer and if power cuts are absolutely inevitable, they should not be limited to slums and all areas must take turns to face the interruption in power supply that should not exceed one hour at a time.

Thunderstorm and dust storm coupled with light rain brought the mercury down in the national capital, bringing the much-needed relief to Delhiites reeling under intense heat.
