NGT directs police to remove encroachments in R K Puram
New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday announced that Delhi Police must take action to remove illegal encroachments in sector 1 of Ramakrishna Puram that have cropped up due to shops and godowns of scrap dealers being set up.
The order came as the green panel of the Tribunal heard a plea filed by local NGO Khushi Sewa Sanstha regarding the unauthorised commercial activity which was resulting in various forms of pollution. In their plea, the NGO also said that despite several complaints registered with concerned authorities there was no action being taken, which led to further degradation of the environment.
Heading the bench, Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore directed that the area SHO take immediate action against these encroachers as and when the municipal corporation informs him of any such activities.
Justice Rathore added, "After considering the submission by the counsels for the parties, we consider it proper to direct the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West Delhi, to ensure that there is no encroachment in the area in question."
At the hearing, SDMC counsel submitted that they are keeping an eye out for encroachments in the area and that they keep removing them as and when they pop-up. They also added that the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board is looking into the existence of some "jhopdis" in the area as well.
