LG Baijal inspects garbage compactor

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday inspected the recently installed Fixed Compactor Transfer Station (FCTS) in New Friends Colony which replaced the earlier system of Dhalaos in the area.

Earlier, Baijal has already visited such as Bhalaswa Landfill, Saket Select malls, Signature Bridge site, Biodiversity Park in Yamuna river front.

He was accompanied by Puneet Goyal, SDMC Commissioner Puneet Goel and senior officers of SDMC and officials of Raj Niwas.

The area falls under Central Zone, South Delhi Municipal Corporation. He was informed that the garbage which was earlier dumped/collected at open Dhalaos is now collected/stored in FCTS. Puneet Goyal, Commissioner, SMCD briefed that implementation of this project has brought about a perceptible change in cleanliness.

He informed that the Compactor Station catered to large areas resulting into lesser number of Dhalaos in the area. 5-7 trips of garbage from FCTS to the Waste to Energy Plant per day results in non-accumulation of garbage at the Dhalao and also contributes to decreased volume / weight of the garbage.
Appreciating that 15 such Stations have been installed under installation in Central Zone, the Lt. Governor directed that more such compactor stations and FTCS facility should be installed as required.

After inspecting the Waste to Energy plant and the Landfill site at Okhla, Sh. Baijal also dedicated newly procured Heavy Duty Bulldozers and excavators for managing the Landfill site to the citizens of Delhi.
