Former Delhi Police chief Alok Verma bids adieu

The Delhi Police parade ground at Kinsway Camp in Delhi was beautifully decorated on Tuesday morning with the Delhi Police jawans in their beautiful uniforms ready for the guard of honour waiting for the departing Commissioner Alok Verma to arrive.

As soon as Verma arrived, he was given a bouquet and as he stood at the dais, the farewell ceremony started. Alok Kumar Verma was given a spectacular ceremonial Guard of Honour by the jawans of traffic police, anti-riot force and Delhi Police women commandos marching on the occasion as the senior officials witnessed the parade seated according to the protocol in the ground. The police band played melodious tunes during the farewell parade.

In his speech, Verma shared that the city has seen better law and order scenario and a drop in overall heinous crimes during 2016. He commended all the officers, staff and field formations of Delhi Police for achieving the same. He further announced that the Lieutenant Governor, Delhi has cleared the proposal for at least three promotions for the personnel who join the force in the ranks of Constables and Head Constable, and at least two promotions for those joining at the Sub-Inspector level.

Verma has the distinction of carrying mass promotions (aronud 26,000 )in the Delhi Police force, his biggest achievement in his tenure.

After he came to the Delhi Police Headquarters, he was given a colourful farewell. By tradition, the departing Delhi Police chief's car is pulled by a flower rope by Delhi Police cops. The Special Commissioner of police, Joint CPs, several DCPs and even the Constables and Head Constables were gathered at the Police lawn in the PHQ. After shaking hands with the new Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, Verma sat in the car that was showered with flowers and was manually pulled by the flower ropes out of the PHQ.
