Gambling racket inside snooker parlour busted

Delhi Police have busted a gambling racket that was being run inside a snooker parlour in Krishna Nagar at Shahdara district. The police have arrested nine men in connection with the case.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad, the police had received secret information that some people had arranged gambling sessions based out of a snooker parlour located at a shop in Krishna Nagar. A police team was formed and a cop was sent as a decoy customer. At the parlour, he was asked to pay minimum amount of Rs 120 for playing snooker and Rs 500 for gambling."

"The decoy was successful and on his tip, the parlour was raided. On searching the parlour, it was found that it was run by a caretaker identified as Nitin Manocha. Nine persons were arrested and a case under Sections 3 and 4 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act was registered at Krishna Nagar police station," said Prasad.

During interrogation of Manocha, it was found that the owner of the parlour is Manish Chhabra, who is absconding.

"Manocha disclosed that he worked as a caretaker of the snooker parlour. He further disclosed that Manish Chhabra is the owner. They used to charge Rs 500 for gambling and 10 per cent commission from the person who won the bet," Prasad said.

Police said that a team has been sent to nab Chhabra.
