70-yr-old booked for acid attack on women, children

A 70-Year old man has been booked for an acid attack case, after he poured acid on a group of women and children near his house in Bharat Nagar. According to police, the accused, Vinod Kumar, attacked three children and two women, after he objected to the children playing near his house and making a bonfire.

The victims have sustained minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital within hours. Acting on the victim's complaint, the police detained the accused.

The incident took place outside Vinod Kumar's house near Shakti Nagar Extension on Sunday.

According to a senior police official, "On Sunday afternoon, we had received a call that an elderly man poured acid at some children. A police team was immediately dispatched to the area to find out about the incident. The team reported that he had thrown some burning substance at three children and two woman."

On the day of the incident, Vinod Kumar was soaking in the sun around 2 pm. In the meantime, three children, Aniket, Suresh and Adarsh, were playing near his house. Vinod, according to residents in the area, had always objected to people creating a ruckus in the area. Vinod had on earlier occasion objected to people drinking and shouting near his house.

He asked the children to go to some other place. However, they did not listen to him and went on with their games and making bonfire. Enraged over this, Vinod took a plastic bottle, opened its cap, and poured the content on the children.

Aniket's mother, Babita and another woman who were sitting next to the house saw this and rushed to their children's rescue, but the substance spilled over to the women as well. They received minor burn injuries and were immediately taken to the local hospital. All the victims were later discharged, and the accused was apprehended and a case was registered.

"We have booked him for acid attack. However, we are yet to figure out the chemical substance which was used. The man is claiming that it is phenyl. We are investigating the case," the official added.
