Newly-inducted Raftaar bikes help policemen nab snatchers

New Delhi: Patrolling on the newly-inducted multi-utility, highly equipped Raftar motorcycles, Delhi Police on Sunday said its personnel caught two snatchers from west Delhi's Kirti Nagar area. Cops claimed that 13 criminal cases, including those of snatching and theft, have been solved with the duo's arrest.

Cops identified the accused as Harpreet Singh (27), a resident of Tilak Nagar with 56 previous involvements in snatching and robbery, and his associate Honey (26), who lives in Khyala and is involved in over 20 criminal cases.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj said that in view of recent snatching cases, a special team was constituted. The team collected CCTV footage from different cameras and created a WhatsApp group to circulate the footage.

"On November 6, the two accused were arrested on the basis of a tip-off that the accused were seen in west Delhi. The police team, who were on Raftaar motorcycles, started searching the narrow lanes of Tilak Nagar and signalled the accused to stop in Ramesh Nagar area

"However, the accused tried to flee and the team chased the accused, but one of them ended up crashing on the culprits' bike," the DCP said.

She added that the impact of the crash was such that the head constable sitting on the bike was flung off the vehicle and sustained injuries. Yet, the cops persisted and nabbed the two criminals.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the duo are bad characters at Tilak Nagar and Khyala police stations.
