New Year eve: DFS to deploy fire tenders on six major spots

New Delhi: The Delhi Fire Services are all alert for the New Year's eve to ensure safety of Delhiites during the celebration. According to the rush, the fire services have spotted as many as six locations in the city where fire tenders will keep a vigil. Chief Fire Officer (DFS) Atul Garg told Millennium Post that Connaught Place, Saket, Karol Bagh, Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar and Defence Colony are the places where fire tenders will be on standby. "Our all staff will be on alert. We have identified the strategic location DFS will deploy fire tenders," said Atul Garg.

He further stated that from 5 pm on December 31, fire tenders will be deployed at the locations. "According to rush on New Year's eve, these places were identified," said fire chief. When asked about precautions while party-goers take while visiting any pub, restaurants or hotels for celebration, DFS chief fire officer stated that people should check the exit routes in the places where they are celebrating so that they can escape if any untoward incident takes place. "If there are no second exit route party-goers should avoid the place," added Garg.

In the year 2018, DFS received 19,083 calls till October regarding different incidents including fire, house collapse, sewer deaths and road accidents, which claimed 178 lives and 1,012 were seriously injured. Last year, they received overall more than 29,000 calls regarding different incidents, wherein 1,767 persons were injured and 318 died.

In many fire-related cases, the building where the incident took place had no NOC. Since 2017, as many as 4,500 buildings in the National Capital have been issued no objection certificates from Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The DFS data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that in the year 2017 around 1,883 buildings were given fire NOC whereas, in the current year, 2618 different types of structures have been issued NOC.
