New mobile app to ensure efficient patrolling of Delhi Police vehicles

NEW DELHI: Technology has made it easy for police vehicles to respond to a call of duty, especially when they are handed the sensitive task of patrolling.
Now, through an app on their cellphones, senior officers of Delhi Police will be able to monitor movement of their patrolling vehicles, including motorcycles and jeeps.
"Our officers can keep a check on patrolling vehicles and record their movement. Officers can also check if the vehicle is performing its duty wisely or neglecting patrolling. It can also be ascertained when a vehicle leaves its jurisdiction and moves outside," said DCP South East Romil Baaniya.
Delhi Police officers will simply have to install the app 'Auto Cop' and connect it with the GPS-fitted patrolling vehicles, which could be either a motorcycle and or a car.
After the application goes online, a graphical representation will easily show how many patrolling vehicles are available, along with their number.
Through the app, an officer sitting in his/her room will easily be able to monitor if any of the patrolling vehicles are flouting rules or are stationary.
Oftentimes, citizens complain about lack of police patrolling in their area, and the app will help Delhi Police make sure that their personnel are performing their duties with efficiency.
"The good thing is it can also tell us how many vehicles are in our jurisdiction and how many of them have their ignition switched off. Our officers can later ask the vehicle staff the reason for the stationary position or if lesser area is covered during patrolling," Baaniya added.
