NDMC launches campaign to make New Delhi plastic-free
New Delhi: "It needs hours to make necessary efforts by every citizen of the Metropolitan cities to reduce the pollution at their personal level by planting sapling the plants, using the public transport, e-vehicles or bicycle, adopting renewable energy and 'Say No to Plastic' in every day life". This was remarked by Meenakashi Lekhi after she planted a sapling in Lodhi Garden on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Lekhi appreciated the efforts of NDMC towards Green, Clean and Smart New Delhi area by unique initiatives like vertical gardens, e-vehicles, solar energy harvesting, public bike sharing system, smart toilets and sewer treatment plants. She urged to all New Delhi area citizens or visitors to cooperate the civic body to make it liveable pollution-free Capital with healthy environment.
NDMC celebrated the World Environment Day by launching a special Mass Fruit Tree Plantation Drive in NDMC gardens. NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar has said that with the aim to make New Delhi area as plastic-free zone, a year-long campaign launched on Tuesday, where the Plastic Rule 2016 shall be implemented in letter and spirit. NDMC has collaborated with Civil Society Organizations like Chintan, Bhoomi, Kaykalp, CFAR, Sleepwell and WOW in the plastic-free campaign.
