NDMC holds orientation programme to eradicate Measles & Rubella

New Delhi: In a bid to eliminate the Measles and control Rubella in the country, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organized an orientation programme for the principals and nodal officers of the non-NDMC schools at NDMC Convention Centre on Thursday.

As many as 80 principals and Nodal Officers participated in the programme. Speaking after the inauguration of the orientation programme, NDMC Secretary Rashmi Singh said that sustained pulse polio campaign was a landmark success in making Polio Free country. And, it was the need of the hour that it should be undertaken on the same pattern so as to eradicate the Measles and Rubella from the country.

She further said that New Delhi Municipal Council has launched the free MR Vaccination Campaign for eliminating the Measles and Rubella from January 16 to January 31 next year. She added that in order to sensitize the heads of the NMDC schools, an orientation programme was conducted in NDMC schools in November.

All children of age group of nine month to less than 15 years would be provided with an additional dose of MR vaccination for Measles-Rubella, regardless of any previous vaccination status or history of Measles - Rubella illness, she said.

The school nodal officers have been assigned to help organize and conduct immunization sessions in schools and co-ordinate with the health workers to conduct the vaccination session during the national campaign, she added.

District Immunization Officer, New Delhi, Dr Harsh said that Rubella is an infectious disease caused by virus. It has Measles like symptom and it infects both boys and girls. However, if women get infected early in her pregnancy it can result in congenial Rubella syndrome which can be harmful for the fetus

and newborn child.
