Narrow escape for 18 children as school van overturns

New Delhi: Three children were injured when their van en route to a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Rohini Sector 3, overturned in Mangolpuri in Outer Delhi. The injured were immediately admitted to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment. It is said that the Maruti Eco van was carrying around 18 school children. Rest of the children escaped with minor injuries.
The accident happened early morning on Tuesday, when the school van's driver could not control the vehicle and it overturned injuring the students inside. Locals from the area said that the mishap happened when a policeman signaled the van to stop. The driver in haste lost control and it overturned. Just after the accident, the locals and the passers-by rushed in to help and rescued the school children who were trapped inside the van. It is said to be a private vehicle working as a school van.
"Someone gave me a call and informed me about the accident, I rushed to the spot as my child was also into it. Thankfully my child is safe but I have heard three children have been injured," said Sandeep, parent of one of the children present inside the school van.
People also helped to take the schoolchildren to hospitals till the police arrived. "We have registered a case under relevant sections and have arrested the accused driver," said a senior police officer. The condition of the injured students is said to be out of danger. Earlier, two school children were injured while 13 others had a narrow escape when a school van, in which they were travelling, overturned in southwest Delhi's Dwarka in February 2017. In 2016, a school van with four school children fell into a drain in Burari area of Delhi. All had been rescued safety.
