Muhammad Akil is new police commissioner of Gurugram

Gurugram: Haryana government appointed Muhammad Akil as the new police commissioner of Gurugram. He will be replacing KK Rao who interestingly did not even serve for one year as the commissioner. Akil in addition to his post of Additional DGP of law and order will be responsible for heading the Gurugram police.

Having established his reputation as a tough cop, Akil's appointment comes at a time when there is a revival of deadly gangs in the district. This year itself witnessed two cold-blooded murders in the middle of city roads where the henchmen are said to be from Kaushal gang.

Hailing from Aligarh, the 1990 batch IPS officer has a major challenge ahead of him as the police force is grappling with law and order challenges of a growing metropolis. Not only has the city seen an increase in a number of heinous crimes like murders and rape there has also been an exponential growth of regular ones like snatchings and burglaries.

According to official data, more than eight vehicles are stolen daily from the Millennium city and 30 per cent of the crimes have still not seen any conviction.
