Most Ggn hospitals flout fire safety norms
Not only are the private hospitals but even the two government hospitals in Gurugram are at risk of a major accident if a fire breaks out in its buildings.
According to the senior officials of fire department, the two public hospitals that are situated at Sadar Bazaar area and Sector-10 are yet to obtain the fire safety clearance from the fire department.
The officials highlighted that even though the hospitals have been trying to obtain the NOC, several discrepancies have prevented the officials of providing the fire safety clearance.
Further, the two hospitals are operating without the NOC for more than a year.
"With reference to the Civil hospital at Sadar Bazaar, objections have been raised on the ineffective water pumps and pipelines whereas in the civil hospital in Sector -10, issues were raised on the construction layout. The management of these hospitals have mentioned that they are in the process of rectifying the deficiencies," said IS Kashyap, fire safety officer of Haryana Fire and Emergency Services.
The senior officials, however, declined to comment on the issue.
This is not for the first time when the questions have been raised on the safety of the public hospitals of Gurugram.
Various RTI detail on the state of civil hospitals in the past have revealed that the public medical institutions in Gurugram are ill equipped to handle major fire incidents.
Not only do the hospitals have inadequate infrastructure to deal with the fire mishap but issues have also been raised on the overall poor infrastructure of the two public hospitals.
Recently, a ceiling fell at the OPD at Civil Hospital building in Sadar Bazaar that has been functioning for 42 years.
The questions of safety in hospitals have come into prominence after fire engulfed a private hospital on last Friday.
The incident had resulted in the Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh ordering the fire audit of all hospitals and clinics in Gurugram.
It is estimated that there are more than 300 private hospitals and clinics in Gurugram most of which are operating without NOC.
