MoS G Kishan Reddy launches NDMC tree plantation drive

New Delhi: "Over usage of natural resources make climate change and ecological imbalance on the earth planet. It is a need of hour that we use our natural resources in a balanced manner to protect our environment. Plastic is a hazardous material for our earth planet and every human being has the responsibility to reduce it in day-to-day lives for saving future of our generation," Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said, while launching a tree plantation drive by New Delhi Municipal Council on Thursday.

Applauding the efforts of NDMC towards spreading awareness about "Say No to Single Use Plastic", he said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged the nation from Red Fort to reduce the single plastic in our life and save environment. Accordingly protection of environment is not only the responsibility of civic bodies or government but it is an equal responsibility of every citizen and should make it a mass movement. Reddy stressed upon the need for taking more efforts for lessening the air pollution level and maintaining ecological balance in the capital city.

Chief Secretary, Delhi cum officiating Chairman, NDMC Vijay Kumar Dev appreciated the efforts of NDMC towards increasing green cover and reducing the single use plastic usage in NDMC area through participation of school children, women groups and non-government organisations. He said that it should be replicated in other civic bodies of Delhi also. He further said that the message of the Prime Minister for "No to Single Use Plastic" will be implemented in letter and spirit in entire Delhi.

Secretary, NDMC — Rashmi Singh introduced the 'Saksham' women led initiative recently by NDMC to promote alternatives to single use plastic and to give sales outlets for women for their economy empowerment. She also introduced the new initiative of sending NDMC students for five-day trek to Gangotri in Uttarakhand in collaboration on mountaineering expert Santosh Yadav.
