More than 1,000 snatchers, robbers under Delhi Police radar

NEW DELHI: The latest Delhi Police compendiums of around 1,000 pages having the name of more than 1,000 active snatchers and robbers in the national Capital.

The Special team for active robbers and snatchers (STARS) of Crime Branch now continuously monitoring the crime calls related to snatching and robbery, so that quick action can be taken.

Police sources told Millennium Post that the two compendiums which include active robbers and snatchers were made by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police in order to keep a tab on the criminals and also to curb the menace of street crime.

Around 465 active snatchers were named in the compendium whereas around 576 active robbers were there. The compendium had all the details of the criminals and their case history.

The criminals are not only from Delhi, but NCR as well. North East Delhi has the highest number of robbers and snatchers, whereas Central Delhi has the least.

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik had directed his officers to focus on curbing street crime and ensuring safety for women and children. Special team for active robbers and snatchers (STARS) have been made in order to curb crime. They are under the leadership of DCP (Crime), G Ram Gopal Naik, who is also in-charge of the Special Task Force (STF).

STARS have two parts, first who are in RK Puram and the second in Shakarpur area. More than 15 teams consist of more than 150 people have been working to curb the menace of street crime. They continuously monitored the crime calls related to snatching and robbery and also taking quick action in it. Each team is headed by an inspector. The compendium also includes the name of lady gang involved in snatching.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), G Ram Gopal Naik stated that they have been keeping a tab on the snatching and robbery incident. "We are taking several steps to curb snatching and robbery in the capital. Several accused have been arrested."

After the crime, STARS start their investigation and they made the list of the criminals who have same modus operandi. In recent arrest, the team had nabbed three robbers from Yamuna Vihar area. Police claimed that the accused had planned to murder two witnesses in this murder case.
