Minors remain easy prey for criminals

Gurugram: The spate of crimes has again highlighted the vulnerability of minors in the city. In the first case, a minor aged between 10 and 11 years was raped by her neighbour. The incident took place in the slums in Sector 37. According to police, the culprit, who has been caught, enticed the girl with chocolate, took her to a desolate spot and committed the crime.
In another incident, a 12-year-old girl was abducted from Om Vihar area in the broad daylight. The incident occurred on Friday. According to the national crime record bureau at 115 cases Gurugram is only second to Faridabad in crimes against minors. In 2016, there were 106 cases of sexual crimes. It is not only sexual assaults but the minors are also vulnerable to abductions and subsequent human trafficking.
In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city out of which 115 were girls. In the period of 2012 to 2017, 1,062 children have been kidnapped in which 677 are girls.
