Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme an extraordinary step: Sheila Dikshit
NEW DELHI: Delhi president Sheila Dikshit welcomed the historic announcement made by Congress president Rahul Gandhi to uplift the living standards of the poorest people in the country through the Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme, which she termed was an "extraordinary step".
Sheila Dikshit expressed her view that Rahul Gandhi made the announcement
that under the Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme (Nyuantam Aay Yojna (NYAY)) for 5 crore poorest families of India, i.e 25 crore people, Rs 72,000 per annum would
be deposited directly in the bank account of the woman of the family. She said that this scheme will apply both to the Urban and Rural poor
families. She said "this is
the biggest scheme for the
poor by the Congress party" after the highly successful MANREGA. She said that this is probably the world's first such scheme to ameliorate
the woeful condition of the poorest people.
