Metro fare hike 'anti-people', says Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Terming the 'steep' hike in Delhi Metro fares as 'anti-people', Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that he cannot recall a single tariff hike of over 100 per cent for any public service in sectors such as transport, electricity and water.
Kejriwal on Thursday urged Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri that an independent expert group, acceptable to the Central and Delhi governments, be set up immediately to review all the issues related to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
In his letter to Puri, Kejriwal said that the hike came as a 'Diwali gift' for the people of Delhi and there has been much confusion relating to facts.
He noted that Metro fares, since 2002, have been hiked four times; 42 per cent in December 2004, eight per cent in December 2005, 37 per cent in September 2009 and 110 per cent in October 2017.
