Mercury and saffron burglar held

NEW DELHI: Mercury and saffron both are expensive items and its seems that the gang of burglars were aware of its market value. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a man identified as Karan Singh, a resident of Khari Baoli, who was involved in a case of theft of mercury and saffron from Chemical Market Tilak bazaar Lahori Gate worth Rs 40 lakh by breaking the rear window of the shop.

Mercury and saffron worth Rs 25 lakh has been recovered from him. Four other persons involved in the crime are still at large with remaining stolen articles.

The burglary was committed in the intervening night of 29-30 November in Tilak Bazar Lahori gate and stolen mercury and saffron worth Rs 40 lakhs. The mercury can be dangerous and hazardous in normal, endangering the life of the other so, keeping in view the gravity of the incident, the team of SOS-I Crime Branch Rohini Sector-14, started working to nab the persons involved in the crime.

Crime Branch, Sec-14 Rohini, Delhi received specific information about the movement of one person Karan Singh, involved in the theft of mercury and saffron in Lahori Gate chowk. Immediately a raiding party was formed and the accused was arrested from Lahori gate. "15 box containing 160 Gram Saffron was recovered from him, which was seized. He was arrested under appropriate sections of law. Subsequent recovery of 5 bottles of mercury, one wooden box Singhrap (lower quality mercury) and 2300 grams Saffron packed in plastic packets and box was also affected on his instance from his hideout in Sonia Vihar. The total worth of recovered goods worth Rs 25 lakh," said DCP Crime Joy Tirky.
