New Delhi: The #RapeRoko campaign, started by the Delhi Women Commission (DCW) after the rape of an eight-month-old baby, has received support from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Bar Associations of Delhi, the Commission said on Sunday.
"Today Indian Medical Association and Bar Associations of Delhi have extended support to the #RapeRoko movement of DCW to ensure completion of trials of sexual crimes cases against women and children by fast track courts within six months and death penalty to child rapists," said a statement by DCW.
In a letter addressed to the DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal, IMA said: "we strongly support the people's movement 'Rape Roko' launched by DCW Chief to demand a robust criminal justice system which ensures cases of sexual crimes against women and children are tried by fast track courts within six months and rapists of children are essentially accorded death penalty as a strong deterrent for others against such crimes."
The IMA has also requested its state and local branches in Delhi to join the #RapeRoko movement in full force. The co-ordination committee of all the District Court Bar Associations of Delhi has also supported the campaign.
Maliwal is on "Satyagraha" since the brutal rape of an eight-month-old baby and has pledged not to return home until March 8.
