Medanta medical negligence: Ggn health dept starts probe

Gurugram: The Gurugram Health department on Sunday initiated an investigation against Medanta Hospital here after it has been accused of medical negligence with which a seven-year-old dengue patient died last month.
Report says that, Bhupendra Parmar, the father of the deceased child, now filed a formal complaint against the private hospital at the city police station. It may be noted that the hospital had charged a whopping Rs 15 lakhs for the treatment of the kid.
Shaurya Parmar, who was suffering from dengue shock syndrome, was admitted in the hospital on October 29 and received treatment till November 20.
However, with no improvement in the condition of their son, the family who belongs to Dholpur in Rajasthan, decided to shift him to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.
After receiving a long treatment, Shaurya breathed his last on November 22. Already grieving their son's demise, the family's troubles worsened after the hospital handed the, a bill of Rs 15.88 lakh.
Bearing resemblance to the incident at Fortis where Haryana government has taken a firm action against the management, the aggrieved father now hopes that justice will be delivered to him.
"We have received a complaint against Medanta and we will follow the due procedures to examine whether there were any lapses in the treatment of Shaurya," said Dr BK Rajoura, chief medical officer, district health department.
In their defence, the management at Medanata has stated that best form of treatment was provided to Shaurya.
Moreover, the cost of treatment was also discussed with parents at every step, the hospital authorities claimed.
They added that they will lend their cooperation to the agencies on any investigation in the matter.
After action on Fortis Hospital in Gurugram, people who have been victims to the malpractices of other private hospitals in Gurugram now want action on the management of other hospitals. Not only Fortis but there have been other private hospitals in the city where recently shocking incidents of negligence and apathy took place.
On November 22, 12-year-old Prateek who was admitted in Park hospital died under mysterious circumstances.
The family of the deceased alleged that he died due to negligence on the part of doctors and management. Presently, the chief medical officer is investigating the matter.
Another horrific incident was also reported at Shiva hospital where two staff members had molested a minor patient who was admitted in the ICU of the hospital.
Even as two culprits were arrested, the family is holding a protest to demand the closure of the hospital.
