MCD officials discuss parking policy with LG

NEW DELHI: The municipal commissioners of the three Corporations and officials of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) were on Monday directed by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to explore the possibility of creating more multi-level stack and surface parking in their areas for smooth implementation of the upcoming 'Parking Policy'.
In a review meeting of the three Municipal Corporations chaired by Baijal, senior officials of the civic bodies were directed to undertake regular field visits to oversee maintenance of municipal assets, such as parks, flyover, and open gyms.
Baijal also stressed that there is a need to re-engineer the design of 'dhalaos', in such a manner that garbage does not spill over and stray animals do not loiter around these sites. He advised the corporations to also explore scaling up the compactors-model deployed in certain areas of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The three Municipal Commissioners apprised Baijal about the measures taken regarding cleanliness and sanitation in Delhi.
The LG was also informed about the status of mechanical sweeping machines, trash cans, connectivity with Resident Welfare Associations, maintenance of parks, open gyms, gram sabha lands for parks, and display of uniform billboards or signages etc.
SDMC and East Delhi Municipal Corporation told Baijal that their areas will be open defecation free by October 2, while the North Delhi Municipal Corporation assured that it would be complete by December 15.
