Mastermind among two arrested for Rs 40 lakh robbery at SBI ATM in Noida

Noida: Gautam Buddh Nagar police have arrested two persons, including the mastermind behind Rs 40 lakh robbery at State Bank of India's ATM in sector 82 area of Noida. Police said that the robbery incident took place on February 19.

According to police, the robbery incident took place at SBI ATM in Kendriya Vihar-II area in sector 82 of Noida. Cops said that two bike borne robbers, both of whom were wearing helmets,allegedly barged into the ATM and attacked the logistics staff who had come to fill cash in the ATM machine.

Further they snatched a bag containing Rs 40 lakhs from the staffers, quickly hopped onto the bike and tried to flee. However, the robbers rammed their bike into an unidentified vehicle and fell on the road. Local public caught hold on one of the assailants while another managed to flee the spot.

Police had already arrested one Nanhe, a native of Bulandshahr, along with Rs 19,65,000.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddh Nagar, said the mastermind of the robbery incident, Gajendra, and his accomplice Anil, were arrested on Sunday night from Phase-II area of Noida during routine checking.

"The two suspects were intercepted by the police near the Kulesara border in Phase 2 area. However, the duo of accused tried to flee and sped up the vehicle. Police chased them while their motorcycle skidded and one of them, Anil, was caught immediately while Gajendra got injured while he jumped from a pushta while trying to flee," Krishna said.

Police have recovered Rs 4.40 lakh, two country-made pistols along with ammunition were recovered from their possession while the motorcycle used in crime was also seized.

Meanwhile, police said that during the robbery incident some amount of money that got scattered on road was taken away by the public.

"We are probing the part of money taken up by the public. The accused have confessed that they have also spent some of the looted money," added Krishna.

The officer further said that the gang was involved in several other incidents of loot around various cities of Delhi-NCR region.

"During sustained interrogations, it has come to light that accused Gajendra was mastermind behind the robbery incident while they have been involved in several other incidents of loot in past few years. In year 2014, the gang also committed robbery of Rs 14 lakhs in sector 20 area of Noida," said Krishna.
