Massive corruption in PWD at behest of top official, claims AAP

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday levelled serious allegations of corruption against officials of the Public Works department (PWD) of the Delhi Government.
AAP leader Ashutosh alleged that PWD officers in Delhi are hell bent on stopping development works and massive corruption is going on at the behest of the department's secretary.
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said he has complained to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on this issue and sought strict action against an officer. He alleged that in his area in front of Jahangirpuri Hospital, a foot over bridge was to be constructed.
The tender for the bridge was passed a year ago, but the PWD has put the project in abeyance and there has been no progress since.
Reports claim that the project has been put on hold to benefit a company in France.
Jha said, "We further inquired into the matter and found that the PWD secretary has fixed a formula under which no officer would work without taking the bribe. Earlier, there used to be a quality assurance unit, which used to check the quality of work done by the department every fortnight or month. As soon as the present PWD secretary took charge, he closed down this unit. Despite repeated reminders by the government, the unit has not been reopened."
Sources said that the CM and PWD minister Satyendar Jain have also taken note of the allegations. The CM is likely to meet Jha soon and discuss the allegations, based on which the plan of action against the alleged official will be decided.
