Man who raped, impregnated 17-yr-old held in Gurugram

Gurugram: A 17-year-old, who was raped by her relative, was found to be pregnant. After reporting the incident from the Government hospital, the complaint was registered at Sector-53 police station.

The accused has been identified as Chandra Mani and he has been arrested. Last month, there were two incidents of rape that occurred in the slums of Om Vihar and Sector-37. The same month, a 16-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour.

According to the national crime record bureau, at 115 cases Gurugram is only second to Faridabad in crime against minors. In 2016, 106 cases of sexual crimes were reported. It is not only sexual assaults but the minors are also vulnerable to abductions and subsequent human trafficking.

In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city, of which 115 were girls. Between 2012 and 2017, over 1,062 children have been kidnapped out of which 677 are girls.
