Man who extorted woman of Rs 23,000, jewellery in south Delhi arrested

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday said they have arrested a person who wanted to establish "his authority as a gangster in south Delhi" and had had also extorted money from a young woman.

According to police, the victim said that the accused Sahnawaz had been stalking her for the last two-three years and allegedly had brandished a pistol at her and extorted Rs 23,000 and jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh from her.

The accused also allegedly tried to kidnap the victim on knifepoint. On June 19, a case under sections 386, 363, 354, 354D, 342, 506 and 34 of the IPC and sections 10, 12 and 17 of the POCSO Act was filed at Neb Sarai police station.

During investigation, raids were conducted at all possible hideouts of Shahnawaz and eventually, on June 20 the accused was apprehended from Tigri Road, Delhi while he was going on a bike.

A team headed by Inspector Kuldeep Singh, SHO (Neb Sarai) made the arrest.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya stated that during interrogation accused was found to be involved in a case in Neb Sarai, as well as in three cases of robbery and snatching at Ambedkar Nagar police station.

"The accused is the habitual offender and drug addict," the DCP further said.
