Man shot dead for pelting stone at pet dog in North-East Delhi

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a man's life was taken simply because he tried to throw a stone at a pet dog in North East Delhi.

A 30-year-old man was shot dead after he allegedly threw a stone at a pet dog in northeast Delhi's Welcome area on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Aafaq Ali, a tailor by profession.

The police have registered a case of murder against the dog's owner, identified as Mehtab.

Police said some cases have been registered against Mehtab and he has been missing after the murder.

Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur confirmed that the murder took place after an altercation took place between the two men over throwing a stone at the pet dog.

Police said that Aafaq's father-in-law called the police control room around 7 pm and reported that his son-in-law had been shot by someone.

When the police team reached the crime spot, they were told that Aafaq was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

"I took my son-in-law in an auto to GTB hospital and on the way he told me that he was shot my Mehtab over minor scuffle over his dog. He told me that he hit the dog with a stone and Mehtab in retaliation has shot him from behind," said Afaaq's mother-in-law who was passing by in the lane when she saw her son-in-law in a pool of blood. She along with the help of locals got him inside an auto and rushed him to the GTB.

"Why was my brother murdered, he was not a criminal. Why criminals are roaming free and innocent people like my brother being murdered. I want the death penalty for my bother's murder, he should be caught immediately, the murderer has ruined our family by shooting my brother dead," said Afaaq's sister.

A police officer said that initial investigations revealed that Aafaq was walking past Mehtab's house when the dog started barking at him. When the dog allegedly tried to bite Aafaq, he picked up a stone and threw at the dog.

"Mehtab saw Aafaq throwing a stone at his dog and got annoyed. An argument broke out between them. Mehtab brought a gun and shot Aafaq. The accused is still on the run" said a police officer.

Police has formed several teams to arrest the accused and a case has been registered under relevant sections in Welcome police station. Afaaq is survived by his wife and three children.
