Man kills sister-in-law over suspicion of extra-marital affair

A 28-year-old man strangulated his sister-in-law to death after he suspected her of being involved in an illicit relationship with another man in North West Delhi's Mukundpur area, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, Navi, surrendered at Bhalswa Dairy police station and confessed to murdering 30-year-old Gudiya.

Police later recovered her body and sent it for post-mortem.

The incident came to light on April 16. A senior police official said that Gudiya used to live at her in-laws' house with her husband, four children and brother-in-law Navi.

While the family was asleep, Navi woke up Gudiya on the pretext of having a conversation with her and called her to the terrace. He then confronted her about the alleged affair, which she denied.

In the ensuing argument, Navi, in a fit of rage, strangulated her with her dupatta. Later, Navi went downstairs, woke up Gudiya's husband and their children and confessed to his crime. He later went to the local police station and turned himself in.

"The accused in the case had surrendered before the police and narrated the entire incident. He did not repent his act and claimed that she was in a relationship with another man.

In fact, a few days before her murder, he confronted the woman and broke her cell phone so that she would not communicate with her alleged lover,"said a senior police official.
