Man kills himself by hanging in police station's restroom

A 32-year-old man on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide by hanging inside Jahagir Puri Police Station's toilet at around 2 am after the cops inquired him about the whereabouts of a woman who has been missing since some months.
"He had come to the police station in connection with an ongoing inquiry related to a habeas corpus petition where he was a respondent," Additional DCP North West Vijayanta Arya said.
The deceased Rajkumar, a resident of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, came to Jahangir Puri Police Station on August 1 after the cops asked him to appear before them regarding the investigation of a missing woman.
The Judicial Magistrate and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate were called on the spot and a request for post-mortem examination by a board of doctors was made, Arya added.
Family members have said that he was called in connection about a missing woman who worked as a sweeper in the same school in Pitampura where Rajkumar worked as a security guard.
Sources said that the married woman a dispute with her husband in which Rajkumar intervened. Later, around nine months ago, Rajkumar left the job in the senior secondary school and went back to his village in Uttar Pradesh.
However, the woman in Delhi went missing a few months ago and a missing report was filed by the family members and during the investigation the family raised doubts over Rajkumar's role, hence was a habeas corpus was filed to which Rajkumar was a respondent.
However, when Rajkumar came to the police station on Tuesday evening, he was inquired about the whereabouts of the woman.
According to the sources, Rajkumar was confronted by police over the issue when he asked to go to the toilet.
When he did not return after a long time, the cops checked the toilets where they found him hanging with the help of a 'gamcha' with the grills of the window. Various questions raised what made him to take the drastic steps and how he climbed up as the gents toilet do have enough space to climb and tie a knot over the grill.
The body has been sent for the post mortem at Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital. Senior police officers have said that they are investigating the matter and till now, no policeman has been suspended.
