Man involved in over 150 robberies and chain snatching incidents nabbed
Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police have arrested a wanted criminal who was involved in around 150 cases of theft and robbery of mobile phone and chain in Delhi-NCR region, said police officials. Cops added that the arrest was made by a team of Indirapuram police station.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Arbaaz (28), a native of Usmanpur area in Delhi. "Police have recovered 10 mobile phones of different brands, one country made pistol along with few cases of live ammunition, a stolen motorcycle from the possession of accused," said a senior police officer.
Cops said that the arrest was made on Wednesday morning from EDM mall in Kaushambi area of Ghaziabad.
"Acting on a tip-off, the arrest was made from near EDM mall of Ghaziabad. During sustained interrogations, the accused confessed to have committed over 150 robberies and theft along with his accomplices," said Aparna Gautam, Circle Officer of Indirapuram.
The officer further said that the gang was active since 2015 and were involved in several robbery and chain snatching incidents.
"The gang used to target people especially in the dark and rob them at gunpoint. Most of the robberies and chain snatching incidents were committed near the posh residential areas of Ghaziabad including Indirapuram, Vaishali, Mohan Nagar road and Kaushambi area. They also open fire on the people if they try to resist the robbery attempt," added Gautam.
Police are now trying to interrogate the accused further to trace other gang members as well.
