Man held for abandoning lover after she delivered

A woman was reportedly abandoned by her lover after she gave birth to a girl child, leaving her with no choice but to lodge a rape case against him in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj, police said on Wednesday.

Brijesh had been in a relationship with the woman, but when she exhorted him to marry her, Brijesh abandoned her. He was arrested after a complaint was lodged at Vasant Kunj (North) police station.

According to the complaint, Brijesh, a driver by profession, had lured her into a relationship by claiming he was unmarried.

The couple went on to have intimate relations after he promised to marry her.

However, when she became pregnant with a girl, Brijesh got cold feet and abandoned her.

"We went through the contents of the complaint and later decided to lodge the FIR. The accused has been arrested and is being questioned," said a senior police official.
