Man dies while cleaning drain

New Delhi: A search of more than four hours ended on a tragic note after the body of the 37-year-old man was found inside a drain in North Delhi's Burari area. A senior NDRF officer told this newspaper that the body was found after a search which started a few hours ago.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad stated that a call was received by Wazirabad police station at around 3 pm that a man named Kishan of Shriram Basti has gone to clear the drain and has got stuck in it. "A team from fire, disaster management and NDRF was locating him. A case under the proper section is being registered," said DCP North. Chief Fire Officer of Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Atul Garg said that they have found one person came out from the drain and the other got trapped inside. According to NDRF, they got information around 4.20 pm. They rushed to the spot and started the operation around 5.40 pm. "The NDRF team consisting six divers started the search," claimed a NDRF official.

The officer further told Millennium Post that the sewerage is 50 feet deep and the tunnel is so small that the divers are crawling inside it to rescue the trapped person. "For conducting the rescue operation we removed the garbage which was creating an obstruction," said the officer. Sources claimed that the pressure also was very high inside the drain. "It is also being suspected that the person while removing the garbage got trapped," sources further claimed.

Police claimed that the poisonous gas was inside the drainage. "Before entering the drainage we took proper precautions," said NDRF officer.

According to the Dileep, a known person of deceased Kishan, when he came to know about the matter, he rushed to the spot. "I went inside the drainage and tried to search Kishan, when I removed garbage torch came out I came out from the drain and alerted the authorities regarding the incident."

Police claimed that they have found that Kishan was working for a private contractor named Anil.
