Man attacks wife, daughter, then stabs self to death

NEW DELHI: A man stabbed himself to death after attacking his wife and daughter in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar on Holi, Delhi Police said on Saturday.

A senior police officer said that the man Jitender allegedly took the extreme step as he was unable to meet the expenses of sustaining his family.

Jitender attacked his wife and daughter with a sharp knife, and then went on to stab himself fatally, the officer said.

The wounds his wife and daughter sustained were not serious and they are recovering in the hospital, where their condition is said to be stable.

Jitender was brought to a hospital, after the incident was reported, where he succumbed.

Police are now trying to determine what caused Jitender to take the extreme step.

His relatives and friends are also being questioned.

"We have registered a case under section 307 of the IPC. The daughter of the deceased, who is undergoing treatment, revealed the incident." said Romil Baaniya, DCP (South).

Police are also verifying whether there was any other reason behind the attack.
