Maid found dead in Defence Colony

New Delhi: A 19-year-old maid allegedly committed suicide at a retired colonel's house in Defence Colony in South Delhi. The maid's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan on Thursday afternoon. The reason for the alleged suicide is still unknown and the police are investigating the circumstances under which the body of the maid was found. The police received a call of the maid's suicide from Defence Colony C-560 which is the residence of a retired colonel 77-year-old BS Bhandari.
The incident took place at around 1:30 in the afternoon. The family informed the police and soon the police team reached the spot. They found that the body of the maid was already taken down. The crime team was called along with the forensic teams who collected vital evidence from the crime scene. It is said that the maid was working in the house for almost an year now. The police have taken the statement of all the residents of the house and are trying to verify the exact circumstances what might have led the girl to take the extreme step. All other angles are also being looked into.
"The maid has been identified as Pooja, a resident of Jharkhand. She allegedly hanged herself in the basement of the building. We are verifying other facts too," said DCP South Romil Baaniya. The police are trying to trace the family of the deceased and the body has been sent for the postmortem. Police said they would be able to ascertain the exact cause of death only after the postmortem.
