'Mahipal fired at judge's wife, son in heat of moment'

Gurugram: Clearing the air on various allegations that had been leveled over why Mahipal shot Judge's wife and son, senior officials of Gurugram police gave an explanation to probing questions over the incident on Wednesday. The official statement came four days after the crime occurred. The questions were answered by Sumit Kuhar (DCP Crime) and Sulochana Gajraj (DCP East).

Highlighting that the incident was a "cold-blooded murder', Kuhar mentioned that it was not a pre-planned attack but occurred in the heat of the moment after 32-year-old gunner was rebuked by the kin of the judge of for not being present at the car while they had gone for shopping.

He also rejected all the allegations which hovered around the head constable being depressed to even a religious angle that was attributed to it. The senior police offices also claimed that Mahipal was happy with the treatment meted out to him otherwise by judge Krishnakant and his family and had no complaints about their conduct against him.

They, however, conceded that the sacked police constable did have matrimonial disputes and was troubled on the domestic front.

"They had asked Head Constable Mahipal to wait near the car while they went shopping but, when they returned, he was not there. After they managed to track him down, the judge's wife and son scolded him for not being near the vehicle, and the son asked him for the car keys," said DCP (Crime).

"Mahipal became aggressive when this happened, and got into a fight with Dhruv, the judge's son. When his mother tried to help him, Mahipal shot her, after which he shot Dhruv," he added

The incident had occurred between 3.15 pm and 3.20 pm on October 13, at Arcadia, a shopping complex in Gurugram's Sector 49. Videos recorded by bystanders showed the accused trying to haul Dhruv's body into the white Honda City after the incident, however, failing to do so, he was seen getting into the vehicle and fleeing the scene. He was arrested by the police at Gururgam- Faridabad road a one-and-a-half hour after the incident.

While the judge's wife, Ritu, 38, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday night, Dhruv is still receiving treatment in Gururgam hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
