Magisterial probe ordered in Sumit Gujjar shoot-out

Greater Noida: District magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar B N Singh on Friday ordered a magisterial probe into the death of Sumit Gujjjar, who was killed in a police shoot out in Chi-4 area of Greater Noida, late on Tuesday night. Gujjar was arrested by police on the charges of robbery of a cash van and for murdering two employees of a liquor firm in Choghanpur area of Greater Noida last month.
Following the arrest, the family members of the deceased staged a protest on Wednesday outside the mortuary in Noida Sector 94 and blocked Kalindi Kunj route near Mahamaya flyover.
They have alleged that the police staged it and Gujjar had no criminal background. The family also denied to take the body from mortuary and also did not perform the last rites till Friday.
Later in evening on Friday, the funeral ceremony of Gujjar was conducted after the DM's order and some elderly people's intervention.
"We have performed the last rites of our kin but our fight to seek justice for his death will continue. The district administration and National Human Right Commission (NHRC) have raised their support to us and we are now expecting a fair probe into the matter. We want strict actions against those responsible for the Sumit's death," said Gujjar's family members.
Meanwhile, the NHRC issued notice to Uttar Pradesh Police stating that "it is not the lawful way to deal with the criminals and elimination of a criminal in such an unlawful manner can never send a good message to a civilised society".
