Looking to help DU freshers, ABVP, NSUI to lock horns

NEW Delhi: Student political organisations in Delhi University, who are constantly at loggerheads, are now creating helpdesks in North Campus, as an opportunity to help students during admissions and bring them into their wing.

The two major political organisations in DU, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students Union of India (NSUI), have thrown themselves in the admission process and are looking to make the most of it.

Students coming to enroll themselves in the colleges, often need help regarding rules and procedures. To assist them, these helpdesks go a long way.

ABVP has upped the ante by installing helpdesks and grievances booths in 65 colleges for the upcoming freshly minted batch of DU students.

"ABVP will be present in around 65 colleges, with local units of our organisation setting up help desks and providing assistance to students. 10-15 volunteers will be present at each helpdesk," said Mahamedhaa Nagar, Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) secretary and ABVP member.

She added that ABVP has launched an app 'UniStack', aimed at solving all the admission-related queries of students.

"It will also provide updates regarding the cutoffs and seats available," she further said.

Meanwhile, NSUI member and DUSU president Rocky Tusheer said, "Along with the helpdesks, NSUI will be providing print-out facilities to students for documents at our helpdesks located near Vishwavidayala Metro station and Arts faculty, respectively."

NSUI, which won two seats in the recently held DUSU elections, is aiming to reach all 79 colleges, with four-five volunteers present at each college.

"Crash courses for different postgraduate entrance examinations have also been conducted by the senior students, voluntarily, for the admission seekers at ABVP offices." said Saket Bahuguna, spokesperson of ABVP, affiliated with the right-wing organisation RSS.
